Volkswagen will not close German factories, but 35,000 jobs will be lost

Volkswagen is not going to close any factories in Germany. However, more than 35,000 jobs will disappear in the coming years, until 2030.

However, there will be no forced layoffs, the car manufacturer says. The company has made agreements about this with the IG Metall trade union.

In October, the works council of the largest European car manufacturer announced that three German factories would close. In addition, there would be a 10 percent pay cut for all staff and a wave of layoffs would follow.

At that time, the messages were still based on what the staff had been told. At the same time, negotiations were still ongoing.
