Russian general dies in attack in Moscow

An important Russian general was killed in a bomb attack this morning. The bomb was hidden in an electric scooter parked at the entrance to an apartment building in Moscow.

Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov was the commander of the Russian Army’s Nuclear, Chemical and Biological Protection Forces. His assistant also died, authorities said.

The area around the site of the attack has been cordoned off. It is not known whether the bomb was intended for Kirillov and whether he lived in the apartment complex.

The Ukrainian newspaper Kyiv Independent writes that Kirillov was charged in Ukraine yesterday with the use of chemical weapons in Ukraine. According to the Ukrainian secret service SBU, this happened 4,800 times. Since the start of the invasion, 2,000 Ukrainian soldiers are said to have been hospitalized and three soldiers have been killed.

Explosives containing chemical substances are said to have been dropped over Ukrainian soldiers in particular by drones. “When they exploded, the soldiers were forced to leave their trenches, exposing themselves to Russian gunfire,” the SBU said.

Last week, Ukrainian media reported that a Russian rocket scientist had been shot dead near Moscow. That would have been the work of a Ukrainian secret service.
