Possible automatic weapons used in massacre in Northern France

The victims of the shooting in northern France may have been shot dead with automatic weapons. This is what the fire brigade told French media. Yesterday, five bodies were found in Loon-Plage and in Wormhout, near Dunkirk.

The mayor of Dunkirk speaks of “a tragic tragedy”. “Someone murdered several people in cold-blooded fashion in French Flanders and on our coast,” says Patrice Vergriete.

Two of the victims were shot in the head, the news site reports Actu17. It concerns the two security guards who were found near a migrant camp in Loon-Plage. The coastal town is located about 25 kilometers east of Calais.

The VRT reports that the security guards, who were patrolling the port area, were found dead in their car. The two killed migrants were found on public roads near the camp.

The fifth body is that of a 29-year-old man and was found in Wormhout, 25 kilometers inland. The 22-year-old suspect, who reported himself to the police, says he also committed the murder.

Furthermore, much is still unclear about what exactly happened in the north of France and why. Nothing has yet been revealed about a possible motive, but among other things Le Parisien writes that the suspect may have had a business dispute with one of the victims. That person was the manager of a transport company.

The head of the region, Xavier Bertrand, calls the murders “a terrible tragedy”. He thinks of the loved ones of the victims, “but also of all residents of the coast and of French Flanders who have been affected by this tragic event.”
