The police in Purmerend assume that the explosion in a house on Maasstraat was intentional. On the night from Saturday to Sunday, a serious fire broke out as a result of the explosion, which was probably on the ground floor.
The fire spread to the attic, after which it spread to the two adjacent houses. Other homes suffered smoke and water damage. In total, the residents of five houses have been sheltered elsewhere.
At least one person was seriously injured and taken to hospital. The police report that he is out of danger. The police are still investigating the background to the explosion and are keeping “all scenarios open”.
