PEC winning goal wrongly disallowed due to offside at corner: ‘Scandalous’

The home team, led by coach Henk Fraser, had only won once this season (2-0 against Almere City). But the play of the last few weeks and the convincing cup win over SC Cambuur (4-1) offered hope.

Before the match, the home club suffered a setback. Jeroen Houwen was actually supposed to keep goal, but the goalkeeper dropped out during the warm-up due to an injury. Joey Kesting was therefore on target for coach Henk Fraser’s team.

RKC started the match against the Zwolle team strongly. Mohamed Ihattaren took his team by the hand from minute one. The talented midfielder is getting fitter and better every week.

It was therefore not surprising that he was involved in the home team’s quick opening goal. A perfectly placed corner kick from the midfielder hit the head of Oskar Zawada and the striker headed home: 1-0.

The home team did not play as you would expect from the number 17 of the Premier League. Instead of waiting and playing reaction football, they looked for attack. PEC Zwolle had little say.

Ihattaren was then close to making it 2-0 in Waalwijk. The playmaker surprisingly shot a free kick from the side of the penalty area on target. As a result, goalkeeper Jasper Schendelaar had to pay close attention. He knocked the ball out of the goal just in time.

PEC Zwolle stayed in the match and even drew level. Just before half-time, Godfried Roemeratoe knocked down Zwolle striker Filip Krastev in the penalty area and referee Blank thought that was enough for a penalty. Dylan Vente didn’t hesitate for a moment and shot the 1-1 against the ropes from eleven meters.

RKC became a bit sloppier after the break. The team had more difficulty making the play than in the first half. Although the first chances in the second act were also for the home team.

Once again it was Ihattaren who initiated the possibility. He placed a cross neatly on Zawada’s head, but Schendelaar saved the ball in two instances by hitting it away from the goal line.

The same goalkeeper later managed to prevent the 2-1 again when Kevin Felida and Zwada had another chance to score a goal shortly after each other. But they did not pass the keeper from close range.

And if you don’t make it yourself, the opponent often makes it. That’s an old football law. PEC Zwolle also seemed to do that in this case, but the VAR wrongly stopped it.
