Fulling again wins Tour of Spain, Van der Breggen third

Demi Volling has won the Vuelta Femenina for the second time in a row. The 28-year-old rider of FDJ no longer got into trouble on the final day and awarded her overall victory with a stage win in the heavy final stage.

Anna van der Breggen finished third in the final classification, three seconds behind the Swiss Marlen Reusser.

It is for the fifth consecutive time in a row that the Spanish course, which has been around since 2015, has been won by a Dutch cyclist. Annemiek van Vleuten did it in 2021, 2022 and 2023, before Volling seized power. Ellen van Dijk was the first Dutch winner in 2018.

Fulling started the stage with a 45 -second lead over companion Van der Breggen and 46 counts at number three Reusser. According to the Vuelta organization, it was the toughest stage in the Spanish round ever: a mountain rit of 152.6 kilometers from La Robla to Alto de Cotobello, with a final climb of 10.3 kilometers and an average increase of eight percent.

Of the early attackers, the Dutch Femke de Vries (Visma-Lease a Bike) held the longest position. In the last 25 kilometers, the Évita Muzic and Mavi García escaped. The French teammate of Volling and the Spanish received more than a minute, but were arrested on the final climb.

The decisive attack came on the toughest part in the last three kilometers, when there were only four riders left, not entirely coincidentally the top four of the rankings. At 700 meters from the finish, fullage demarcated, which crossed the finish for ten seconds before Reusser and fourteen for Van der Breggen.

Dutch riders dominated the eleventh edition of the Tour of Spain: Marianne Vos, Femke Gerritse, Mischa Bredewold, Anna van der Breggen and Volling all all wrote a stage to their name, fox and full -length even two.

Ellen van Dijk won the first stage with Lidl-Trek, a team time trial, which made her the first Rodetroedbewijster. The green point sweater (VOS for the third time in a row) and the mountain jersey (full -lingering) also ended for Dutch shoulders.

Final winner Vollering said goodbye to SD Worx at the end of 2024 after four extremely successful years and gave her new team FDJ-Suez six victories this season.

This round of Spain was her ninth big round for Volling, of which she won three (once the Tour de France and twice the Vuelta). She did not end up on stage in Italy in 2019 alone in 2019.
