Former track cyclist Bos is new national coach of the Dutch BMX team

Theo Bos is the new national coach of the Dutch BMX team. The former road and track cyclist will guide the athletes in the run-up to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Bos will start on January 1 and succeed the departing Martijn Jaspers.

The 41-year-old Bos had been national coach of the Chinese track cyclists since 2021 and said goodbye after the Games in Paris. In his career on the track, he won five world titles and an Olympic silver medal at the 2004 Games in Athens.

“I really enjoyed the role of coach and I learned a lot from my time on the court in China,” says Bos. “It gave me confidence that I can also contribute to top sports programs in the Netherlands where the acting is at the highest level and where many champions compete.”

The fact that Bos has no experience as a BMX rider is not a problem, according to him: “From my experience as a rider and coach on the track, I know what it takes to reach the top. And BMX and the track have many similarities. in the field of training. Ultimately, it is about us achieving something great together as a team and competing for the medal of honor.”

At the Games in Paris, Manon Veenstra surprisingly won a silver medal. Laura Smulders came fourth. Among the men, no one from the Dutch team reached the final battle.
