Former Formula 1 team boss and analyst Eddie Jordan (76) died

Former team boss in Formula 1 Eddie Jordan died. The 76-year-old Irishman, who had his own team of Jordan Grand Prix from 1991 to 2005 in the royal class of motorsport, died of an aggressive form of prostate cancer.

Jordan was a flamboyant personality in Formula 1. Not only because of his racing team, but also because of his always sharp opinions in the media.

At Jordan Grand Prix, Michael Schumacher made his debut in Formula 1, the German would later become world champion seven times. The Jordan team won a total of four Grands Prix. After various sales and name changes (Midland, Spyker, Force India and Racing Point), the Silverstone team is now active in Formula 1 as Aston Martin.

After he stopped as a team boss, Jordan worked as a TV analyst at the BBC, among others.

“Eddie and Jordan Grand Prix became known for their rock ‘n’ roll reputation, bringing fun and tension to Formula 1 and the constant performance above expectations,” his family writes in a statement.

“Many successful F1 drivers owe their breakthroughs to Eddie, and world champions, including Schumacher and Damon Hill, drove for him. Eddie brought an abundance of charisma, energy and Irish charm everywhere he came.”

The quirky Irishman was one of the last ‘privateers’ in Formula 1, a team owner whose racing stable is not affiliated with a car manufacturer. He always succeeded in generating a lot of attention for his team, for example by using frequent photo models, something that no longer happens today.

Jordan’s first victory was achieved in 1998 in one of the most chaotic races in Formula 1 history. On a soaking wet Spa-Francorchamps, more than ten cars popped together at the start. Later in the race there were more accidents, making Damon Hill and Ralf Schumacher (Michael’s brother) a 1-2 for Jordan.
