fan falls out of the away section, Heracles-Groningen match stopped after unrest

The match between Heracles Almelo and FC Groningen was stopped in the 79th minute. When the score was 1-1, there was unrest in the away section after a Groningen supporter fell down from that section.

The fan fell through a wall that protects the stands under the away section from projectiles and ended up in the section below. There were children there who had been on a football team together.

The Groningen fans then wanted the match to be stopped and started throwing things to stop the match. Referee Rob Dieperink stopped the game after being informed by a security employee about fights around the away section.

The fallen supporter was able to get into an ambulance on his own, said general manager of FC Groningen Frank van Mosselveld.

Because it remained uneasy outside the stadium, the match was finally stopped around 11:30 PM. On Sunday we will see when the match can be completed.

On the field, the basement battle between numbers 15 and 16 also developed into a spectacular, but at times grim battle. Before halftime, Heracles coach Erwin van de Looi was firmly in control, after halftime his former assistant Dick Lukkien seemed to have found an answer.

Groningen came back to 1-1 after the break, then received a red card and then saw how unrest arose in the away section after a supporter fell through the plexiglass.
