Energy company Eneco is cutting 350 jobs

Eneco is cutting up to 350 jobs due to, among other things, the rising costs of materials and wages. Geopolitical tensions in the energy markets also play a role. It should become clear in the coming months which departments of the energy company will be hit.

Intervention is necessary, because “there are a lot of things going on in the energy market,” says a spokesperson. For example, households use less gas. That is a good development in terms of the climate goals, but it does generate less income for Eneco.

Since last summer, the number of externally hired workers has been reduced. Temporary employment contracts will also not be extended. There must be 350 fewer full-time contracts by March 31, 2026. Furthermore, costs are reduced by automating a number of business processes, such as by using chatbots. There are now a total of almost 4,000 full-time jobs at Eneco.

The group announced last June when it published its annual figures that it was going to reorganize. The company made a profit of 368 million this year.

The reorganization should not be at the expense of sustainability. “Eneco is not doing badly, but we do want to maintain the results,” says the spokesperson.

Eneco continues to invest in wind and solar parks, as well as in other sustainable developments. It hopes that the government will continue to stimulate the market for green hydrogen and the energy transition.
