PVV leader Wilders will not accept any adjustments to the asylum plans of Minister Faber of Migration and Asylum. If this does happen, Wilders wants new House of Representatives elections. “If people want to change even a millimeter, they will have to do it without us,” said the PVV leader.

He responds to press questions about the upcoming package of new asylum measures, which the cabinet will discuss in the Council of Ministers on Friday. Then VVD, NSC and BBB must also approve Minister Faber’s stricter asylum package.

Wilders believes that his party has made enough compromises in recent months. In recent weeks, for example, Wilders has negotiated with several opposition parties about fewer cuts in education.

At the end of October, the PVV was finally prepared to take the controversial state emergency law off the table, because coalition party NSC had insurmountable objections. Another plan was introduced with strict asylum measures, laid down in the so-called ‘Emergency Asylum Measures Act’. “But at a certain point it will be over, where I will no longer move. That is where the PVV says: enough is enough.”

The ruling party PVV in particular has promised voters to come up with the “strictest asylum regime ever”, but measures by PVV Minister Faber have not come off easily in recent months.

Wilders believes he must keep his election promise. “If for some reason we cannot deliver that, we have to go back to the voter. And ask the voter, give us even more mandate to enforce that even better.”

For example, Faber’s ‘Emergency Asylum Measures Act’ states that asylum permits will only be issued for three years, instead of five years. Consideration is also being given to returning Syrians to safe areas and receiving asylum seekers in austere ‘transfer locations’.

Wilders says that the coalition should in any case not change the short-term plans. But there is more to come. “My message is that my patience has run out. I will not tolerate any counterbalance, because then I no longer feel like being in the cabinet.”

Wilders adds that he does not hope to leave the cabinet. “But at some point deliveries will have to be made.”
