Big win for winter champion PSV over Feyenoord in the final round of 2024

PSV came out hard against Feyenoord in the seventeenth and final Premier League match round of the calendar year. The people of Eindhoven were supreme before half time and won the top match at home 3-0.

It was PSV’s first victory in 2024 against one of the traditional top clubs; Ajax or Feyenoord. With the victory, the reigning champion is halfway to 45 points, six more than number two Ajax.

It was clear from the kick-off. The leader gave Feyenoord no breath or time to try anything and was lord and master. Noa Lang went his way on the left and drove Feyenoord to despair.

In the 19th minute the home team took the lead after a beautiful attack. Luuk de Jong cleared himself with his head and sent Ivan Perisic, who was preferred to Johan Bakayoko, away on the right.

With Bart Nieuwkoop at his back, Lang came in from the left and Perisic pulled the ball back perfectly. Lang shot hard with the right into the short corner.

Perisic was again the scorer for the second goal in the 27th minute. This time the Croat found De Jong’s head. Feyenoord keeper Justin Bijlow was still there, but it was not enough.

The PSV captain had not scored against Feyenoord in the Premier League for ten years, since his hat-trick in Eindhoven on December 17, 2014 (4-3).

Feyenoord had great difficulty controlling PSV and played with fire with two early yellow cards for Nieuwkoop and Quinten Timber. Both did not hold back afterwards and escaped with a second print. Antoni Milambo also went into the books after a tough charge on Mauro Júnior.

Yet Feyenoord was still close to the tying goal before half time. Ramiz Zerrouki’s header came via PSV keeper Walter Benítez onto Santiago Gimenez’s knee and then onto the post.

On the other hand, it could also have been 3-0 after the first half. Just like Lang, Ismael Saibari moved through the Feyenoord ranks with ease. However, the ending left much to be desired.

Without any substitutions, Feyenoord started the second half strongly. Anis Hadj-Moussa delivered a dangerous cross, Milambo had a chance, but missed control and Igor Paixão shot just wide.

In the 62nd minute, Gimenez hit the aluminum for the second time in his 100th match for Feyenoord, this time the crossbar.

Bad luck for Feyenoord and shortly afterwards PSV hit back mercilessly. From a standing position, Malik Tillman hit the ball hard and clean. It was the 114th Premier League goal this calendar year for PSV. That is a club record, the old one was 111 in 1987.
