Amateurs Quick Boys perform again in the KNVB Cup with the elimination of Fortuna Sittard

Quick Boys pulled off a stunt by qualifying for the eighth finals of the KNVB Cup at the expense of Fortuna Sittard. The Katwijk amateurs eliminated the number eight of the Premier League in the second round by winning 3-1 in front of their own audience.

Excelsior and RKC also continue to convert. Excelsior, leader of the first division, won 3-1 away at FC Eindhoven, ranked twelve places lower.

RKC got rid of SC Cambuur. The number seventeen of the premier league defeated the Frisians, fifth in the first division, convincingly in their own stadium 4-1.

Quick Boys, leader in the second division, was no less than Fortuna Sittard from the first minute. Defender Ivaila Staal headed a corner kick from the left onto the post in the first fifteen minutes and Levi Duijn saw how Fortuna keeper Luuk Koopmans just tapped his shot over.

The first chance for the Limburgers resulted in a goal, when in the twentieth minute Alessio de Cruz, who had been promoted to striker, was put away by Alen Halilovic and finished well.

But before half time, Quick Boys, who were playing better, restored balance with a goal from midfielder Nick Broekhuizen. Just before half time, the Katwijkers even made it 2-1 after a surprising breakout, rounded off by striker Milan Zonneveld.

Immediately afterwards, things became restless along the line after a confrontation between both groups of supporters, after which the mobile unit entered the field. In addition, a small fire broke out in the dunes behind the sports park as a result of fireworks, all of which prompted referee Bas Nijhuis to stop the match.

Nijhuis added the remaining minutes to the second half, in which Zonneveld made it 3-1 for the home team with his second goal. That’s it.

In the previous round, Quick Boys, which reached the quarter-finals last season, had also settled with an Eredivisie club, Almere City.

Excelsior, the leader of the first division, took the lead in the 21st minute through a goal by Zach Booth who turned in a cross from the left by Arthur Zagré. The American was also responsible for the 0-2 in the 29th minute.

FC Eindhoven soon brought the tension back in the second half with a goal from Daan Huisman on a pass from Sven Blummel, but the Brabanders did not get any further. In fact, the score was 3-1 thanks to Belgian Jacky Donkor, who came on for Booth. He pushed the ball into an empty goal, because goalkeeper Jorn Brondeel had gone forward in an attempt to force the equalizer.

For the second season in a row, Excelsior has advanced to the last sixteen.

RKC opened the score in front of its own audience with a goal from Polish attacker Oskar Zawada in the fourteenth minute, but fifteen minutes later the score was level again. Michael de Leeuw prepared the ball for Tony Rölke. The German hit hard from the left on behalf of the number five of the first division: 1-1.

It was the home team that took the lead again in the seventh minute after the break. After Belgian Chris Lokesa failed to score from close range, former Cambuur player Silvester van der Water still rammed hard into the goal of his old club for 2-1.

Midfielder Yassin Oukili made the score 3-1 from a corner from the right by Julian Lelieveld in the 73rd minute. Substitute Faissal Al Mazyani made it 4-1 in the final phase. Reaching the eighth finals is a boost for the Waalwijk club, which only has to tolerate Almere City in the Premier League.
