Adjustment of pension plan leads to at least two years of delay

The introduction of the new pension system is at least two years of delay if participants still get more participation. This is what Minister Van Hijum of Social Affairs and Employment writes in a letter To the Lower House.

The Chamber had asked for more clarity about the consequences of a proposal from the NSC government party, Van Hijum’s own party, to give pension participants the right not to participate in the new pension system.

A debate on this at the end of April was high, with supporters and opponents blaming each other. Proponents of the new system, such as the VVD and D66, find it incomprehensible that after more than ten years of consultation a government party in the final phase is still in danger of putting a spoke in the wheel.

The parties and Minister Van Hijum warned in that debate that the new system could be delayed by the NSC MP Joseph’s plan. This would cost all pensioners a lot of money, because two pension systems should be kept up if Joseph gets her way.

But Joseph and the proponents of her plan, such as BBB and PVV, do not share those worries. They believe that the participants ‘participants’ participants should be properly arranged. Joseph warns that in the new system everyone is running more investment risk. She also provides lawsuits with dissatisfied pension participants.

The debate remained unclear what the estimated consequences of the NSC proposal are. Van Huijm has now put that on paper and the letter makes it clear that the adjustments have far -reaching consequences according to his officials.

A “significant part” of the preparatory work must be transferred and all kinds of laws must be adjusted. All kinds of authorities, such as the Council of State, also have to look at it again.

It is still unclear whether the NSC proposal obtains support from a majority in the Lower House. Smaller opposition parties such as DENK and the Party for the Animals can be the deciding factor and they have not yet determined their position.

The vote in the Lower House about the proposal is scheduled for next Tuesday, 13 May.
